Ok so set up a G1 with ATT and my first impressions are:

- Call quality is pretty good.
- Phone battery seems to suck a little (coming from Blackberry 9700, 8310, 8800 and 2G Iphone)
- Takes a little getting use to the form factor.
- Very good, responsive and bright screen
- Not as intuitive as most phones for doing things. Seems to have alot of options that could confuse the basic phone user (I'm a Techie so it was cool to me)

Overall, so far it's cool. I love the Terminal on it so I can run Linux commands on it all day long. That's awesome.

Setup to ATT was pretty easy. If you follow the setup here on AD's site, you'll be running in no time. My ATT Text and web both work fine. I think I'm on the Edge network though with my 3G SIM but, it's cool. The only thing is the internet doesn't work while on a call like on my Blackberry 9700 (but it didnt' work on my 2G Iphone either so no biggie). Good look. So now I saw on ATT website last night (2/16/2010) that they announced they will have Android phones releasing soon. Hmmm could this be a pre-cursor to the Iphone contract breaking away from ATT to be an open market phone? The Iphone is cool but I think the Android phone may be pushing for that #1 spot.

I think I'm missing a step. I have the wap.cingular APN set up as instructed above as well as without the username and password and I can't connect at all. Not even to register the phone with Google.

What am I missing?

Thanks for the APN settings!

I originally used T-Mobile with the G1, and thus far the only noticeable difference between AT&T/T-Mobile is (as you mentioned) the lack of 3G speeds (however, even with T-Mobile in the Chicago area, I did not get a 3G connection all the time).
